We currently employ a team of 135 employees, working from our London office or remotely, as well as a growing number of remote workers in our interviewing services team.

The Role

We’re looking for a skilled and experienced Research Director to join our Education sector which currently accounts for around 20% of project work at IFF. As a Director within the team, you’ll be responsible for the delivery and leadership of key projects, leading project teams, liaising with clients and ensuring work is delivered efficiently and profitably. Currently, the vast majority of work in this sector is with public sector clients, particularly the Department for Education, with whom we have a long-term client relationship and ongoing repeat business.

Working with the sector head, you’ll work towards sector targets and support in winning new business. In this leadership role you’ll also support, motivate and develop your team and junior researchers.

You’ll adopt a key leadership role within the research team motivating others and supporting the development of more junior members.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead projects in the Education sector, managing researchers to ensure high-quality delivery
  • Have overall responsibility for signing off specifications and data outputs
  • Produce thoughtful, creative and impactful presentations and deliver these to clients.

Project Management

  • Work with the sector head to meet sector objectives and targets, monitoring projects to ensure strong financial performance and high-quality delivery
  • Take responsibility for projects, clients and suppliers, delegating where appropriate

Client/Business Development

  • Support and lead on new business proposals
  • Nurture long-term relationships with clients whilst working to develop new ones
  • Attend and participate in weekly Director meetings and regular board meetings


  • Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of IFF Research
  • Coaching and mentoring more junior members of your project teams/ the wider research team
  • Promoting the IFF culture and encouraging a collaboration and team cohesiveness

About you

In this business-leading position, you’ll be a practiced Director with experience in an agency environment and demonstrable skills leading and delivering high profile, large scale, outstanding quality projects within education, learning and skills.

You’ll be able to demonstrate key skills which will include experience leading research studies in education, learning and skills issues, among audiences such as teachers and/or providers, pupils/learners/apprentices, and employers, you’ll also have experience of delivering evaluation research.

You must have an impressive track record of creating winning bids and proposals, including presentations, pitches and client portfolios.

Your previous delivery or commissioning of work will mean you have a clear understanding of working with the public sector and you’ll demonstrate substantial experience of leading and managing the development and implementation of research projects, including research design, execution and reporting.

Experience of both quantitative and qualitative methodologies is highly desired.
