The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Director with excellent evaluation skills to join our Education sector. Currently, the project work in this team accounts for 20% of project work at IFF and the vast majority of work in this sector is with public sector clients, particularly the Department for Education, with whom we have a long-term client relationship and ongoing repeat business.

As a Director within the team you’ll be responsible for the delivery and leadership of key evaluation projects, leading project teams, liaising with clients and ensuring work is delivered efficiently and profitably.

Working with the sector head, you will work towards sector targets and support in winning new business. You’ll adopt a key leadership role within the research team motivating others and supporting the development of more junior members.

Key Responsibilities include:


  • Be a company expert in evaluation research and an advocate within the Education sector and wider business
  • Lead projects in the Education sector, manging the research team to ensure high-quality delivery

Project Management

  • Work with the sector head to meet sector objectives and targets, monitoring projects to ensure strong financial performance and high-quality delivery
  • Take responsibility for projects, clients and suppliers, delegating where appropriate

Client/Business Development

  • Support and lead on new business proposals
  • Nurture long-term relationships with clients whilst working to develop new ones
  • Attend and participate in weekly Director meetings and regular board meetings


  • Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of IFF Research
  • Coaching and mentoring more junior members of your project teams/ the wider research team
  • Promoting the IFF culture and encouraging a collaboration and team cohesiveness

About you

You must have strong expertise in delivering evaluations, alongside experience of education, learning and skills research with both qualitative and quantitative methodology experience highly preferable. You should have experience operating at Director level, with some exposure to an agency environment.

It’s important that you’re a specialist in delivering evaluation work, as well as experience of leading research studies on education, learning and skills issues, among audiences such as teachers/providers, pupils/learners/apprentices, and employers.

You must be able to demonstrate clear understanding of working with the public sector through previous delivery of work or commissioning work from the client and you’ll have substantial experience of leading and managing the development and implementation of research projects, including research design, execution and reporting.

You’ll be leading high profile and large scale projects so experience in this regard is essential and you must demonstrate a strong track record of creating winning bids and proposals, including presentations pitches and client portfolios.
